Context
The UNESCO Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen was established in 1976 and is responsible for projects and work in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen. The Regional Office works to find and implement innovative solutions in social, cultural, environmental and economic dimensions of sustainable development, helping countries to achieve their national development priorities and commitments on Sustainable Development Goals and the Education Agenda 2030, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015. In particular, the Office works in five main field of international cooperation:

In 2024, the Regional Office has started the second biennium (2024 – 2025) of its Approved Programme and Budget for 2022 – 2025 (41 C/5). Building on its strong presence in the region and on decades of past implementation, the Office is also expanding programming and project-implementation in the six countries of the Gulf and in Yemen.
On this background, the UNESCO Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen is looking for a national UN volunteer expert to support the development of the Education Programmes in the Gulf States and Yemen, with a specific focus on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Greening Education.
Task description
Under the functional authority of the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen and under direct supervision of the UN Volunteer, the volunteer will carry out the following tasks: Project Management:
1. Provide overall and day to day coordination and follow up for the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of a project focused on greening education in the Gulf States;
o Regularly update project implementation plans (objectives, targets reached and progress rates, timeline and detailed implementation schedules, etc.);
2. Follow up to ensure timely implementation and efficient performance of vendors and sub-contractors;
3. Review, archive, and keep record of all communications and documentation related to the project.
Monitoring and Reporting: 1. Track the progress of the assigned projects and prepare periodic progress reports, including technical and financial progress reports, and briefing/progress reports to donors. Reports should show ongoing progress and results on agreed-
2. upon targets and expenditures over time;
3. Contribute to preparing semi-annual reports and final narrative reports, highlighting achievements, results, challenges faced, lessons learnt, and recommendations for future action or intervention.
Coordination and programme expansion:
1. Provide follow up for the expansion of the programming on ESD and greening education in the Gulf States and Yemen;
2. Contribute to preparing concept notes and project proposals on ESD and greening education in the Gulf States and Yemen;
3. Provide support for the organization of a conference on ESD in the Gulf States and Yemen.

Requirements
Required experience
15 years of experience in Education, Natural Sciences, or related areas of specialization, or other relevant programmes; experience with UNESCO is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;
Experience and knowledge of the climate change education, greening education and education for sustainable development highly desirable.
Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, among others),
email, and internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
Have affinity with or interest in Education, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN system.

Doha, the capital city of Qatar, is often characterized by modernity, comfort, and luxury, as one of the wealthiest cities in the world. While Doha embraces modernity, it also values traditional Qatari customs and Islamic traditions. Respect for local customs, such as modest dress and adherence to Islamic principles, is important. It is also known for its high cost of living, accommodation, particularly in upscale neighbourhood’s, can be expensive, although a range of housing options is available to suit different budgets.
The city experience desert climate characterized by hot summers and mild winters. Summers can be extremely hot (June to September), with temperatures often exceeding 40°C (104°F), while winters are moderate, with daytime temperatures ranging from 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). The city receives minimal rainfall, primarily during the winter months. Despite the desert climate, Doha offers green spaces and parks for outdoor recreation, along with access to pristine beaches along the Persian Gulf. Additionally, the city’s multicultural population contributes to its vibrant social scene, with a diverse array of restaurants, cafes, and cultural events reflecting influences from around the world. Overall, living in Doha provides residents with a blend of modern conveniences, cultural richness, and a cosmopolitan lifestyle.
